Mormon Myths

In the past few years, I’ve come to realize there are many stories and statements circulating around and perpetuated by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which are either completely false or not nearly as simple as they may seem. It is imperative that members and investigators have these myths de-bunked so that their belief and commitment (or doubt and deconversion) be informed rather than blind.

Here is a list of Mormon myths, with a link to “the rest of the story.”

* Myth: Polygamy in the church was God’s way of taking care of widows.

* Myth: The Plan of Salvation contains all the answers.

* Myth: Joseph Smith learned at the age of 14 that God the Father has a physical body of flesh and bones.

* Myth: The story of the restoration of the priesthood was a great missionary tool in the earliest days of the church.
